The Work-Ready Op Shop Ball
The Work-Ready Op Shop Ball is a community event aimed at improving access to affordable, professional clothing for people preparing for work. The idea is to invite the business professional community to donate quality workwear they no longer wear and redirect these items to job seekers who need appropriate clothing for interviews and the early weeks of employment.
FRIDAY MAY 1
A Night to Support Work-Ready Futures
The Work-Ready Op Shop Ball is going to be a fun and colourful night designed to collect pre-loved business attire that can make a practical difference to job seekers across the Fraser Coast. Many individuals entering or re-entering the workforce struggle to afford suitable clothing for interviews or for the first stages of a new role which can often become a barrier for people attempting to secure work.
By gathering jackets, shirts, trousers, skirts, footwear and other suitable clothing (to donate on the night of The Work-Ready Op Shop Ball), the event aims to create a sustainable supply of affordable workwear. All clothing collected will be made available through Transformations Op Shop, providing an ongoing outlet for people who require interview or workplace clothing.
This is a community event in collaboration with Fraser Coast Regional Council Jobs Ready Program, IMPACT Community Services, Bayside Transformations, Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre, Regional Development Australia Wide Bay Burnett, and other community partners involved in employment support.
Our Objectives
-
To collect donations on the night of the event of high-quality business attire for interview and workplace use
-
To redistribute clothing through Bayside Transformations Op Shop
-
Supports job seekers who require appropriate presentation for their new job
-
An accessible event combining Op Shop Ball ticket purchase with clothing donation

-
Focus on building a sustainable source of work-ready clothing in the region.
Pauline Rees, Trainer Jobs Ready Program says:
Employment and job seeker support programs across the Fraser Coast constantly report that their participants have difficulty affording appropriate business clothing, not only for an interview but also for the first few weeks of employment. Business owners and managers also report that the people they are interviewing for vacant positions and new start employees, are not presenting appropriately for the desired image of their business. So, we are supporting a Work Ready Op Shop Ball to gather business clothing from business people who haven’t worn their jacket, shoes, long sleeve button up shirt, trousers, skirts etc for a while and make them available at Op Shop prices for those who need them.
