Regional Development Australia Wide Bay Burnett (RDAWBB) has released its Clean Energy Engagement Report, capturing the views of the region’s local industry on the opportunities and challenges posed by the transition to clean energy.

Following months of consultation with businesses across the region, the report highlights three key priorities: the urgent need for clear and consistent policy direction, the importance of building trust and social licence, and the critical role of government collaboration and support for businesses navigating the transition.
RDAWBB Chair Cr Bill Trevor said the report reflects the sentiments of industry leaders who recognise the opportunities of clean energy, but who are also seeking reassurance that they will not be left behind.
“Businesses in our region understand the importance of the clean energy transition, but they need confidence that affordable, reliable and secure energy will be available, 24/7/365. Policy certainty is essential, and government support is critical if businesses are to remain productive, competitive, and sustainable while working towards net zero targets,” he said.
The report underscores the importance of governments at all levels working together with industry, education providers, and communities to deliver practical solutions. It also highlights the need to build trust and strengthen social licence, ensuring that the transition is not only environmentally responsible but also economically fair and socially inclusive.
RDAWBB Director of Regional Development, Sotera Trevaskis said the report is not an endpoint but the beginning of a roadmap for action.
“This is a call for collaboration. We need government, industry and community working side by side to create a pathway that secures jobs, attracts investment, and ensures regional economies thrive as part of Australia’s clean energy future, “she said.
There is still work to be done, but what is clear from industry and stakeholder feedback, is that for Wide Bay Burnett industry and business to expand, invest, and create employment to support and provide the current and future wealth prosperity of our region it requires 24/7/365, reliable, sustainable, & cost-effective energy.
