The objectives of the program are to increase the productivity and safety of heavy vehicle operations, including through the provision of driver fatigue management rest areas and the enhancement of heavy vehicle networks. This is about improving Australia’s road network to ensure it provides safe and reliable transport for all users, particularly heavy vehicle operations.
State, territory and local governments are eligible to apply for funding for projects that will upgrade road infrastructure to improve heavy vehicle safety and freight efficiency, saving lives and reducing travel times for freight on Australia’s roads.
On 29 September 2020, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, the Hon Michael McCormack MP, announced funding for 146 projects, submitted for funding under Round Seven of the HVSPP in accordance with the National Land Transport Act 2014.
