Director of Regional Development (DRD) at

REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AUSTRALIA – WIDE BAY BURNETT

Are you ready to make a difference?

Regional Development Australia (RDA) is a national network of Committees made up of local leaders who work with all levels of government, business and community groups to support the economic development of their regions.

RDAs have an active and facilitative role in their regional communities and a clear focus on growing strong and confident regional economies that harness their competitive advantages, seize on economic opportunity and attract investment.

RDA Wide Bay Burnett is looking for a Director of Regional Development (DRD), based from its Hervey Bay office, to lead an innovative organisation which is committed to developing its region, meeting its strategic goals, and preparing the region for the future.

You will be responsible for assisting the RDA Committee to establish the organisation’s strategic vision and objectives and lead a small team in achieving these objectives. The region includes the local governments of Gympie, Fraser Coast, Bundaberg, Cherbourg, North and South Burnett.

Collaborating with other RDA Committees, all levels of government, and the private sector, RDA Committees will:

  1. a) Facilitate regional economic development outcomes, investment, local procurement and jobs.
  2. b) Promote greater regional awareness of and engagement with Australian Government policies, grant programs and research.
  3. c) Improve Commonwealth regional policy making by providing intelligence and evidence-based advice to the Australian Government on regional development issues.
  4. d) Co-ordinate the development of a strategic regional plan, or work with suitable existing regional plans that will align with the Commonwealth’s regional priorities.

The DRD will promote the region’s activities to government, industry, business, and community sectors to highlight competitive advantages and encourage decentralisation.

As DRD, you will provide evidence-based advice to governments on critical issues negatively affecting their region, and emerging or current opportunities that can be harnessed with strategic intervention.

Applications for DRD positions are sought from highly-motivated and experienced people who are knowledgeable about the economic, social and emerging strengths and challenges of the region. Previous experience in government economic development is preferred and the successful candidate will have open driver’s license and rights to work in Australia. RDA WBB is an equal opportunity employer. The Director of Regional Employment reports directly to the chair of the board.

Immediate start available.

Salary based on experience.
