A regional leader with the desire to see positive economic change in the community is being sort to join the Regional Development Australia Wide Bay Burnett committee.
RDA WBB is seeking expressions of interest to join the volunteer committee as deputy chair to work across the three levels of government and with industry to create economic opportunities and overcome obstacles.
RDA is a national network of volunteer committees made up of local people volunteering their time and energy to develop local solutions to local issues and to advocate for federal government funding programs.
The Deputy Chair’s position has become vacant due to the resignation of Fraser Coast-based representative Daniel Poacher.
RDA WBB chair Bill Trevor thanked Mr Poacher for his commitment and active involvement as deputy chair for the past three years.
“Daniel had a realistic and practical view and was a strong contributor to the activities and success of RDA Wide Bay Burnett in recent times,” Cr Trevor said.
“Unfortunately for us his business is taking him outside the region on a more regular basis and he can no longer devote the time required to the role.”
Cr Trevor said the search was now on to find a suitable replacement who is dedicated to contributing and making a difference.
“RDA Committees have an active and facilitative role and a clear focus on growing strong and confident regional economies that harness their competitive advantages, seize on economic opportunity and attract investment.
“This is a great opportunity for somebody within the community who cares about to put themselves forward and commit to making big decisions about our future.
“They must be knowledgeable about the economic, social, cultural and environmental opportunities and challenges facing the region; be well connected and a strong advocate for the community and build and drive economic growth.”
Current committee members include Bundaberg-based chair Bill Trevor, committee member Tanya O’Shea, Fraser Coast-based committee member Ed Gibson, Burnett Inland committee member Kristy Frahm, South Burnett-based committee member Georgie Somerset and Gympie-based committee members Kerren Smith and Julie Williams.
Interested community members are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest for the deputy chair position. EOIs will be accepted until close of business Thursday, February 28.
