Media Release – Community Leader Re-Appointed to Lead RDA WBB

(Bill) Trevor OAM will continue to drive the Regional Development Australia Wide Bay Burnett agenda after
being re-appointed as Chair of the economic development organisation.

Mr Trevor, also Bundaberg Regional Council deputy mayor, has lead the RDA WBB committee since 2016 and
has been re-appointed to the role until the end of 2020.

Federal Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government Dr John McVeigh welcomed the
reappointment of Mr Trevor.

“Mr Trevor’s extensive local government and agricultural business experience coupled with his demonstrated
deep commitment to the Wide Bay Burnett region through his varied volunteer work, makes him the perfect
candidate to continue to lead RDA Wide Bay Burnett,” Minister McVeigh said.

“RDA are key contributors to regional economic development. RDA committees are highly valued facilitators of
initiatives that grow local economies, promote opportunities and attract investment; this in turn provides
confidence to regional areas.

“In addition, I would like to thank the 500-plus volunteer board members that serve on our 52 RDA committees
across Australia for their ongoing support.”

RDA WBB chair Bill Trevor said he was pleased to be re-appointed to the position and is eager to continue
driving economic prosperity and attracting investment across the region.

“The region is on the cusp of strong economic diversity and prosperity, so I am very pleased the new Minister has tasked me with leading the RDA committee through until the end of 2020,” Mr Trevor said.

“The Wide Bay Burnett offers an enviable lifestyle and a diverse economy, however has historic challenges of high unemployment, low wages, low workforce participation and an ageing population. The RDA committee consists strong regional leaders who are passionate about driving change and ensuring the region flourishes.”

Mr Trevor said RDA WBB had forged strong partnerships with all three levels of government and political, business and community leaders to ensure the Wide Bay Burnett makes the most of its opportunities and prospers under a changing and challenging economy.

“We have recently played a role in $20 million being invested across the Wide Bay Burnett through the Regional Jobs and Investment Package and are hopeful of further federal grant support with the Building Better Regions Fund soon to be announced.”

Mr Trevor resides in Childers, has a strong background in the agricultural sector and local government (Mayor of Isis Shire for 14 years) as well as being the former Area Consultative Committee chair. He was also the founding president of the Regional Organisation of Councils, former Director of the Isis Central Sugar Mill Company and former Member of the Bundaberg District Health Council.

RDA Committees have an active and facilitative role in their communities and a clear focus on growing strong and confident regional economies that harness their competitive advantages, seize on economic opportunity and attract investment.

RDA WBB committee members include Deputy Chair Daniel Poacher, Gympie’s Kerren Smith and Mayor Michael Curran, Fraser Coast’s Anne Maddern, Bundaberg’s Janelle Gerry, North Burnett’s Stephanie Whittaker and South Burnett’s Georgie Somerset.
